Alexis Gautier is an artist based in Brussels and Brittany. His work explores the relationships at play in cultural transactions, collaborations and the creation of narratives. Often made with other individuals, his work creates a space for exchanges and appropriation, weaving encounters, discoveries and misunderstandings. Gautier documents his research and interventions through textiles, sculptures, videos, narrations and drawings.

Alexis is a graduate from the Städelschule in Frankfurt Am Main (DE) and from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp (BE). He has had solo exhibitions at the museum M Leuven (curator Eva Wittocx), at JESTER/ CIAP Kunstverein in Genk (curator Alicja Melzacka & Orlando Maaike Gouwberg), at the Leopold-Hoesch Museum (Düren, DE), at BOZAR (Brussels, 2017), Blue Mountain School (London, 2018), Basis (Frankfurt Am Main, 2019) and ISLAND (Brussels, 2020).


In 2022, Gautier was a resident of the WIELS art center in Brussels. Since 2020, he is supported by the Günther-Peill Stiftung (Düren, DE), by the Fondation des Artistes (Paris, FR) and by the Flanders Art Fund. Gautier is affiliated as a researcher in the Arts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp.

Alexis Gautier est un artiste basé à Bruxelles et en Bretagne. Son travail explore les relations qui interviennent entre les transactions culturelles, les collaborations et la construction de récits. Souvent réalisé avec d'autres individus, son travail ouvre un espace propice aux échanges et à l'appropriation, tissant des rencontres, des explorations et des malentendus. Gautier documente ses recherches et ses interventions au travers de textiles, sculptures, vidéos, narrations et dessins.

Alexis à étudié à la Städelschule de Francfort-sur-le-Main (DE) et précédemment à l'Académie royale des beaux-arts d'Anvers (BE). Il a présenté des expositions personnelles au musée M Leuven (commissaire Eva Wittocx), au JESTER/ CIAP Kunstverein à Genk (commissaire Alicja Melzacka & Orlando Maaike Gouwberg), au Leopold-Hoesch Museum (Düren, DE), à BOZAR (Bruxelles, 2017), Blue Mountain School (Londres, 2018), Basis (Francfort-sur-le-Main, 2019) et ISLAND (Bruxelles, 2020).

En 2022, Gautier était résident du WIELS à Bruxelles. Il est soutenu depuis 2020 par la Günther-Peill Stiftung (Düren, DE), par la Fondation des Artistes (Paris, FR) et par le Flanders Art Fund. Gautier est affilié en tant que chercheur en arts à l'Académie Royale des Beaux Arts d'Anvers.
